Barnsley is a large market town in South Yorkshire. The surrounding villages, together with Barnsley, form the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley. At the 2011 Census, Barnsley had a population of 91,297.  Barnsley has a lively shopping centre, markets, a museum and other historic attractions and is surrounded by open countryside and ancient villages.
