Volunteer Opportunity – MESH Seeking New Trustees

Make a difference! Volunteer to be a trustee of MESH!

MESH is a small Yorkshire-based charity dedicated to helping adult migrants access English language learning opportunities.

People who move to the UK need English language skills to access training, gain employment and participate in society. Enabling new arrivals and longer-term residents to fulfil their potential is fundamental: migrants bring with them valuable abilities, qualifications and experience which can lie untapped unless they have the chance to learn English to an appropriate level. The way that this is achieved is through English language provision known as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

It can be difficult to find information about ESOL classes. That’s why MESH has developed a website that lists all English language education providers and their classes in Yorkshire & the Humber, for anyone who wants to learn English and anyone who is helping them.

You can find out more about MESH here: www.leedsmesh.org

This is an exciting time to get involved with MESH. We have recently secured significant funding that will allow the project to grow and develop over the next 2 years. Our reputation is growing regionally and nationally and we are keen to recruit new trustees who will bring fresh skills and experience to help us on our journey.

Does the above sound like something you would like to give your time to? Could you be a MESH trustee? We welcome all applications but we are looking to diversify our board and so are keen to hear from people with lived experience of the issues of under-represented communities, people with a multilingual background and those who have been ESOL learners.

We are currently looking particularly for people with experience of managing finances and/or working with social media. But above all we are looking for people with a willingness to contribute their energy and their experience.

Commitment:
This is a rewarding and stimulating role which will require a time commitment of around seven meetings a year plus time to support specific initiatives which interest you. The role is unpaid, although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

For more information and to apply:
You are welcome to contact our Director Catherine Hemmings or our
current Chair James Simpson for an informal conversation.
They can be contacted via leyandh@gmail.com.

We are also holding an online event on Tuesday 13th July from 3-4pm. You will be able to meet some of our current trustees and find out more from them about the role. Please email leyandh@gmail.com if you would like to attend.

Or you can just email leyandh@gmail.com for further information and an application form.

Closing date for applications is 30/07/2021 and shortlisted applications will be followed up with an interview during the week commencing 16/08/2021.

Good Luck!
