About this opportunity
At Calderdale College, our Level 1 certificate in childcare is designed for learners aged 19+ who are passionate about early years education and wish to develop foundational skills and knowledge. This structured course delivers a vocationally focused curriculum covering areas such as:
- Working in early years settings
- Respecting and valuing children
- Practical units such as play, childminding, safeguarding, and physical activities for children – offering a broad grounding in childcare knowledge
The course is delivered by supportive tutors with a strong emphasis on personal development, real-world childcare practices, and preparation for progression into employment, apprenticeships, or further study.

Calderdale College
Calderdale College is a Further Education College in Halifax. We are passionate about giving everybody the opportunity to gain basic skills to either study further, secure an apprenticeship or find a job. Aimed at students who don’t speak English as their first language our ESOL courses give you the skills you need to succeed. Employers look for basic English skills and this course is your first step into a brighter future. We will help you decide your next steps and make sure you have everything you need to succeed. We work with local community projects such as Calderdale Valley of Sanctuary whose aim is to bring together organisations across Calderdale to create a network of places that asylum seekers and refugees know to be welcoming and understanding of their situation.
