Northern College
Overview
Northern College is the only residential adult further education college in the North of England, delivering life-changing learning, situated in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Teaching takes place in Wentworth Castle, a fabulous grade I listed house that once belonged to Thomas Wentworth, surrounded by 550 acres of National Trust grounds.
This is all available for our students to access throughout their studies. Staying as a resident allows students to ‘get away from it all’ and focus on learning and achieving, away from everyday home and work pressures and gives students access to extra support along with the “head-space” and time to focus on their studies, learn new things, and focus on themselves. The college is a vibrant place welcoming students aged 19 -99 onto a range of 2-day courses and longer residential courses from Entry Level 3 to Level 5. Courses include personal and social development, social justice themed courses, outdoor learning, functional skills, and skills for work.
Our students may gain formal qualifications they need to return to learning, or simply upskilling to help progression within work. Students benefit from studying with likeminded people. Our small college creates a community feel. and gain new and better jobs. Where we encourage everyone to reach their full potential. The courses are fully funded for people earning less than £21,255 a year or unemployed.
The college focus on the support on those who need it most, and our students are those that need a second chance.
