ESOL – First Steps in English
About this class
This is an English course for speakers of other languages (ESOL) designed specifically for new arrivals to help them acquire basic communication skills to help them settle into their new community. It is suitable for learners who are Pre-Entry/Entry level. It focuses on basic functional and practical skills that learners may encounter in their first few weeks. These include giving personal information; finding their way around the community; shopping, and health. It focuses primarily on speaking and listening skills.

RETAS Leeds
Established in 2002, RETAS (Refugee Education Training Advice Service), is a well-respected community-based charity that supports the social, cultural and economic integration of refugees and asylum seekers in West Yorkshire. Located in the heart of Harehills, we annually, support over 3000 new asylum seekers and refugees and over 10800 related cases. We run learner responsive ESOL course specifically catering to beginner and illiterate learners. We also run digital skills and additional courses in the language around navigating the transition between asylum and refugee status. We offer a full holistic wraparound advice service.
